History note: | Proteins (1989-1999)X |
historyNote*: | 2000; for RGS PROTEIN (G-PROTEIN SIGNALING) use GTPASE-ACTIVATING PROTEINS (NM) 1997-1999
X |
publicMeSHNote*: | 2000; RGS PROTEIN (G-PROTEIN SIGNALING) was indexed under PROTEINS 1997-1999
X |
Scope note: | A large family of evolutionarily conserved proteins that function as negative regulators of HETEROTRIMERIC GTP-BINDING PROTEINS. RGS PROTEINS act by increasing the GTPase activity of the G alpha subunit of a heterotrimeric GTP-binding protein, causing it to revert to its inactive (GDP-bound) form.
